Solar Spirits - Our Story
Solar Spirits formed at WSU during Startup Weekend in Tri-Cities, Washington in September of 2013. We came together from a passion to create an outstanding product using sustainable energy and ingredients proudly from the heart of Washington State.
We believe Solar Spirits has a responsibility to make the highest quality products while giving back to our community and industry.
Our goal is to create a distillery powered entirely by the sun.
Our first step to achieve this goal was to install a solar thermal system. This system is wonderful for generating hot water but has limitations at high temperatures necessary for distillation.
To bridge the gap until we can install our own solar electric system, we are purchasing Renewable Energy Credits (REC) to offset our purchased electricity. These REC’s are Green-e Energy Certified and meet the environmental and consumer-protection standards set forth by the nonprofit Center for Resource Solutions.
